SARAH GAUL IS AN AWARD-WINNING MUSICAL COMEDIENNE, actor, writer and IMPROVISOR.
Sarah is a Sydney-based multi-hyphenate who loves nothing more than performing, eating assorted cheeses and sitting at the local dog park with bacon-lined pockets.
As a musical comedian, Sarah has taken her one-woman cabaret show to The Adelaide Fringe (2013, 2014 & 2016, 2017), The Melbourne Comedy Festival (2013 & 2016), The Melbourne Cabaret Festival (2013), The Sydney Fringe Festival (2015, 2016, 2017), and the Sydney Comedy Festival (2016, 2017, 2020). Her shows My Piano and Me, The Iron(ic) Lady, Sarah Gaul in: SLUMBERLAND and COMEDIENNE have received critical acclaim from media and audience right across the country. Sarah appeared on TONIGHTLY WITH TOM BALLARD, and was a State Finalist in the Melbourne Comedy Festival RAW competition.
Sarah appears regularly in rooms all over Sydney including THE COMEDY STORE, STAND OUT COMEDY and THE RUNNING JOKE/
Sarah's original cabaret piece Good Grief, which she performed with long-time friend and collaborator Sophie Wright (Kinky Boots, Wicked, Broadway to Oz), won her BEST NEW ORIGINAL WORK at the Short & Sweet Cabaret Festival in Melbourne, and she was a finalist in the INTERNATIONAL CABARET COMPETITION.
As a writer, Sarah has worked with Playwriting Australia, and has had work produced by ATYP and Tantrum Theatre. Her piece The Last Post was selected for publication by Currency Press in a collection aimed at HSC Drama students. Sarah was shortlisted as a candidate for the 2017 ATYP Rose Byrne Scholarship.
As an Improvisor, Sarah was part of the Winning Team at the 2015 Sydney University Theatresports Cup, and has graduated from Improv Theatre Sydney. She has performed at the Giant Dwarf, The Roxbury Hotel, Hermanns Bar, The Enmore Theatre and Manning Bar. Sarah's team went on to win the 2016 Cranston Cup at the Enmore Theatre, as well as the 2017 Australian National Theatresports Championships. Sarah is part of an ITS house team and performs improv regularly around Sydney.
As an actor, Sarah's first debut feature film, HOT MESS, was selected for screening at FOR FILMS SAKE Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, Perth Film Festival and Sydney Underground Film Festival. Sarah’s raw, hilarious ‘breakout’ performance in the lead role of Loz has won her praise internationally. The film was released in Australia/NZ in February 2020 and released on NETFLIX in October 2020, and FOXTEL in JULY 2021. The film is written and directed by Lucy Coleman, produced by Emerald Productions and Loose as Hell Productions, and distributed by FilmInk Presents.
Sarah's other film credits include HUNTERS AND RUNNERS (2013), NO PRIVACY IN PUBLIC (2013) and more recently, THE RICH INNER LIVES OF WOMEN BEING MANSPLAINED TO (2017). Before moving to the USA, Sarah shot an exciting new Web Series (also directed by Lucy Coleman) called ON THE FRINGE; Season one is AVAILABLE NOW. The series has been selected for showing at LA Comedy Fest (USA), Pilot Light Festival (UK) and Sicily Web Fest (EU).
Sarah spent a year in 2017/2018 working, living and doing shows in NYC, and has appeared in Broadway Sessions, Parkside Lounge, and was the July winner of Kraine Theatre's Cabaret Showdown. Sarah was selected to appear at the Bitter End as part of their New Artists Showcase, as well as at The Stand, Eastville Comedy Club, and was invited back to perform at Gotham Comedy Club several times. Sarah has headlined Club Cumming and Secret Loft.
Sarah currently has several film and TV projects in production and is touring her 2023 show, HAPPY AT TIMES, right around the country.
